Hello, hello! How was your weekend? We had a fun but busy one! On Saturday morning Emma and Brandon went fishing with Paw Paw (my father-in-law) while Lydia and I went for a walk, played at the park, and did some chalk coloring on the driveway. That afternoon we attended a church service with some friends then went to their house for pizza, swimming, and trampoline jumping! On Sunday Emma had a friend over in the morning, I did some housework, we met up with my aunt and my cousin’s kids at the playground, and then went for ice cream after dinner with Brandon’s brother and our nieces and nephew.
Two weeks ago I did a post on my summer skincare routine. If you missed it, you can read that here. As a follow up to that, today I’m sharing my favorite summer hair products! I have fine, thin hair that tends to get frizzy in the summer humidity. So, not only do I need volumizing products but I also have to use products that help fight frizz. As an added bonus, these products are all budget friendly!
Marc Anthony Instantly Thick Shampoo and Conditioner: This is the only shampoo that actually gives some body to my hair without feeling sticky or dirty. You only need a small amount so the bottle lasts a long time (I’ve had mine for over 6 months), it’s sulfate free, and it smells really good! The conditioner leaves my hair soft and manageable without weighing it down.
Loreal Color Vibrancy Intensive Post-Color Repair Mask: Since I get my hair highlighted every 8-10 weeks, I started using a repair mask to help protect it. This one preserves color vibrancy and repairs visible damage. I use it once a week and leave it on for 5 minutes after shampooing. It seems to make my hair softer too!
John Frieda Frizz East Heat Defeat Protecting Spray: I blow dry and straighten my hair after I wash it and my hair stylist told me to ALWAYS apply a heat protecting spray. I like this one because it also helps block humidity and rehydrates my hair. I apply it to my hair before blow drying and I really do think it has helped prevent heat damage.
Garnier Fructis Sky-Hi Volume Mousse: This is my one “must have” hair product as it really helps add volume to my hair! After I spray on the heat protecting spray, I apply this mostly to my roots but also run some through the entire length of my hair and then immediately blow dry with a round brush. There is such a noticeable difference when I don’t use it.
LiftIt Color Protect Foam Mousse: My hairstylist recommended this mousse for it’s color-safe qualities as well as it’s ability to add a little extra oomph. You spray it right onto your roots and tousle it with your fingers then blow dry. I usually use this one for the first week or so after I get my hair highlighted. It’s not quite as easy to work with as the Garnier mousse but it does give my hair a lot of volume.
Suave Flexible Control Finishing Hairspray: This hairspray is great for my hair! It goes on very light and holds without stiffness. Since it’s a finishing hairspray it just holds down flyaways and prevents frizz. It wouldn’t hold curls or an up-do very well but it’s perfect for my needs!
Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Dry Shampoo: I wash my hair every other day but since it’s so fine, it sometimes can look greasy on non-wash days especially in the summer. This dry shampoo’s powder absorbs oil and also gives a little feel or texture to my hair. The scent is a little strong so if you’re sensitive to smell this one may not be for you.
What do you use for your hair in the summer? Just like with skincare products, I’m always looking for new hair products to try. If you have any recommendations please leave me a comment!
